EM Acoustics supplies high

Over 40 EM Acoustics loudspeakers and subwoofers have been deployed at the first Dubai branch of London's highly regarded 1REBEL fitness chain by UAE distributor and integrator Levels AV.

The first 1REBEL gym in Dubai has been fitted out with more than 40 EM Acoustics loudspeakers and subwoofers.

Voted ‘king of gyms’ by GQ magazine, the London-based boutique fitness brand required audio systems that could supply a high-octane soundtrack across an area of 900 sq metres.

UAE-based distributor and integrator Levels AV was awarded the project during the design and project commercialisation phase, overseen by Turner & Townsend project management, whilst the interior design was taken care of by Allen Architecture Interior Design and APA London.

Levels AV managing partner Hassan Alwan says: "1REBEL was clear about the level of AV system this project required. Its gyms have an impressive reputation – and part of the appeal is the overall polished look and party atmosphere of the 1REBEL experience.

"The products installed needed to reflect this. At Levels AV, we knew we needed to deploy our highest-quality products in both the lighting and audio stages of the installation."

The workout zones, reception area and changing rooms each area required a bespoke audio solution.

"This 1REBEL project required nightclub-quality sound across a variety of zones in what is 1REBEL's first open-plan gym," says Alwan. "We needed high-quality loudspeakers that could be relied upon to produce crystalline audio across a mixture of music genres.

"EM Acoustics was an obvious choice for this project. EM's loudspeakers are powerful for their size and deliver matchless audio quality, meaning we could ensure a smooth and even sound coverage without interfering with the overall industrial aesthetic. The range of flexible rigging and mounting options meant we could get sound where we needed it across all areas of the gym."

The RIDE room, which is home to the gym's spin bikes, required a fully immersive AV experience. Alongside high-impact visuals, nightclub-grade sound is provided by six EMS-81X high-output loudspeakers, and S-15 and S48 subwoofers. Simplified touchscreen AV controls offer instructors easy access to the system, with a triggering system that enables users to cue up and sequence integrated media, lighting and soundtracks.

In the RESHAPE room, Levels AV opted for six EMS-81X loudspeakers and two S-12 subs. iPad stations were deployed to allowing the system to be controlled via Pixilabs and Avolites. The main floor of the gym features eight EMS-61 two-way loudspeakers.

The changing rooms are home to four EMS-41 compact loudspeakers, which provide discreet yet coherent audio. The background audio in the reception area is supplied by two compact EMS-51 loudspeakers.

All the gym's systems are controlled via Xilica, with Linea Research amplifiers driving the loudspeakers and subwoofers. Muxlab solutions integrate the media and content servers to the displays.
