Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Program PY 22

The purpose of this grant is to fund an organization that has the knowledge and expertise to expand or develop apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship which incorporates data-proven strategies to recruit, train, and employ firefighters and paramedics. The grantee will be responsible for facilitating the development, implementation, and expansion of up to five apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs that will serve 270 to 500 participants.

The Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Program PY 22-23 grant aims to fund an organization that possesses the knowledge, expertise, and authority to expand or develop up to five apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training programs which incorporates data-proven strategies to recruit, train, and employ firefighters and paramedics. The successful project will serve 270 to 500 participants, coordinate with the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Intermediary awardee to establish a talent pipeline for more advanced healthcare careers, and recruit graduates of the forthcoming EMS Corps program. Proposals must be received by 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023. An informational webinar will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required. Proposals will be accepted from non-profit organizations, foundations, and philanthropies; education and training providers; institutions of higher education or a consortium of institutions of higher education; community-based organizations (CBOs); business-related non-profit and for-profit organizations, labor organizations and workforce intermediaries. Individuals are not eligible to apply. The applicant must be based in the U.S.

Applicants to the Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Program PY 22-23 must be organizations that possess the capacity, relationships, and expertise to expand or develop up to five apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training programs across the State of California.

The Employment Development Department, in coordination with the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, announces the availability of up to $4 million from the State of California General Fund for the Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Program PY 22-23 Solicitation for Proposal.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) will enter a contract with the grant awardee through a Subcontract Agreement. The EDD may request that the contract incorporate changes to the original project proposals.
